First Source Gives $2,500 Donation to the Amanda L. King Memorial Fund

January 18, 2011

Many votes were cast on First Source’s Facebook page for worthy causes around our region. The winner of their inaugural Facebook charitable donation campaign is the Amanda L. King Memorial Fund, one of their write-in candidates. This wonderful cause, helping area families who have children with cancer, works year round to honor the wishes of a young woman who was lost to cancer. The Fund, with offices located in Camden, will make very good use of the $2,500 donation. More information on the organization can be found here.

“This has been a great way to reach out to our community of friends,” said Mike Parsons, President and CEO of First Source Federal Credit Union. “We hope this is the beginning of a new way to bring everyone together to help us give back to our neighbors throughout Central New York. Congratulations to the Amanda L. King Memorial Fund.”

Stacey Borst, President of the Amanda L. King Memorial Fund, thanked First Source and said, “This donation will go a long way in helping the families who have a child fighting cancer and being treated at Golisano’s Childrens Hospital in Syracuse. These families go through sometimes severe financial hardships during a time when their lives have been thrown into turmoil. This memorial fund was started to alleviate some of the financial burden on these families so that the parents and caregivers of these children can concentrate on the health of their child. It is with the help of local business and private donations that we are able to make this assistance possible.”

First Source Federal Credit Union will be presenting the $2,500 check to the Amanda L. King Memorial Fund next week.

First Source Gives Back

December 16, 2010

First Source Federal Credit Union has proudly supported and contributed to our community since our founding in 1938. It’s part of our nature. We are a community-owned organization and we recognize the importance of investing in that community. While each of the organizations and charities we partner with each year feels the love, the community as a whole may not know all that we contribute through the year.

We wanted to not only raise that awareness but also allow for our community to be a bigger part of the process. In late November we launched an effort through our Facebook page where community members could “Like” us on Facebook and then vote for their favorite local charity to receive $2,500 this January.

The response has been overwhelming. We have grown to over 1,000 fans on Facebook and have received hundreds of votes already. It is so awesome to see everyone’s passion on our page. Each organization is spreading the word and asking their friends, family and coworkers to vote.

As well, we have received positive feedback through phone calls and emails, thanking us for the opportunity to receive much-needed funding. To this we say, Thank you. It is you who drive us to always strive to achieve more and give back to the community.

If you haven’t voted yet, go to facebook.com/fsourcefcu and “Like” us. Then go to our Poll tab and vote. (Wall posts will not be counted.) Votes will be accepted through December 22nd.  The organizations listed are groups we have partnered with over the years. Any new organizations added need to be located in Oneida or Herkimer County to be considered, as that is the area that we currently serve.

Remember, only one vote is allowed per person, so make yours count. Of course, encourage others to vote too, and make it a great holiday for all.
