Become A Member
First Source strives to help you Live Smarter by making good financial decisions. If you live, work, worship, or attend school in Oneida or Herkimer Counties, you qualify to become a Member. What sets us apart from other financial institutions is our approach to doing business. We want to help our Members meet their financial goals and improve their lives. When you’re a First Source Member, we are truly invested in you, taking the time to look at your bigger financial and personal picture before offering solutions for your particular needs.
Why Become A Member?
As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we are a Member-centric organization. This means our focus is on you as a person. Our bottom line is your financial well-being. We offer superior service, competitive rates, fewer fees, and “profits” that are reinvested in the credit union and the community. When you become a Member, you become an owner of the credit union. We’re governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected by our Membership.
Here to Help
We originated as Utica Teachers Federal Credit Union, with roots in education, so our goal is to help you Live Smarter. Through financial education, we strive to help you become a more informed consumer, saver, and borrower, and to better your financial well-being. We want you to become more financially secure, and achieve your life goals, from college or a wedding to vacations and retirement.
We get to know you. We learn what you hope to do with your finances, and what factors affect your financial well-being. This helps us better assist you, by making decisions based not just on your financial standing, but on your personal situation as well.
Our mission is: “To improve the quality of life of our Employees, Members and communities we serve.” We do this by way of more than just monetary donations, but with our time and effort as well. We believe in helping others, and helping empower others to help themselves.
Our employees are often found engaging in fundraising and awareness efforts outside of the credit union, and volunteering their time for causes throughout the year. We are very active with community organizations and needs that have an educational component or impact, staying true to our roots as an educational credit union. When everyone in our community does better, we are all enriched.
