First Source Federal Credit Union has begun the groundwork for a “beautiful” new branch in Herkimer, slated for completion in mid-2026.
With a presence of more than 30 years in Herkimer at 510 West State St., First Source has broken ground on a larger and more modern branch to be built right next door.
“Originally, when this branch was built in 1992, it was to be a temporary solution with a larger and more functional branch to follow soon after,” said Heather Padula, First Source VP of deposit operations. “But the branch sustained and remained a steadfast part of our network and organization, serving Herkimer for 33 years as one of our busiest locations. As we look at upgrading our current facilities and expanding with new ones, it was Herkimer’s time.”
The new branch will have a more modern feel with self-serve, assisted, and full-service delivery channels offering members flexibility, convenience, and personalized service. The free-standing Interactive ATMs located behind the branch will remain where they are.
“We can’t thank our employees, Members, and the Town of Herkimer enough for their support as we continue to evolve and give back to an area we love,” said John Calabrese, First Source president/CEO. “This significant investment honors our commitment to our organizational mission: to improve the quality of life of our employees, our members, and the communities that we serve.”
First Source employees, board members, town officials, representatives from NewGround International, and Smajic Construction were on site to commemorate the groundbreaking.
